The language is studied only in the first two years of the undergraduate level except format where they study the language subject only for the two year. The two year has graded syllabus comprising language component (grammar) and literature common for all. Students learn literary heritage comprising a brief study of the contents of the Vedas, Upanishads, Puranas, epics, lyrics, prose literature, Champukavyas and drams.

The Department of Sanskrit aims at:

• Propagate shastric, literary and scientific speciality of Sanskrit Language.

• Promote research in various branches of Sanskrit Literature.

• Establish literary, cultural, moral and sacramental importance of Sanskrit in the present social context and values.

Highlights:

  • The Department of Sanskrit, in  association with “Samskrita Bharati”- Aksharam, a national level organization,periodically organises Samskrita Sambhashana for ten days to help students to become conversant in speaking Sanskrit.

Vaagartha(Sanskrit Club)  - Every year department conducts competitions to students like:

  • Natakavachana-Spardha
  • Gadyavachana Spardha
  • Drishya-Abhinaya-Spardha
  • Vaagartha appreciates and honors the toppers who secured highest marks in the University Examination.
