The Department of Physics was established in 1990. The teachers interact with students outside the classroom in connection with seminars, assignments and remedial classes. These areas include experimental solid state physics, optical and laser physics, and various aspects of theoretical and computational physics ranging from condensed matter to string theory and cosmology..

The department laboratories are well equipped to meet the curricular requirement. Many instruments such as Cathode Ray Oscilloscope, Geiger Muller counter, Junction Generator, Regulated Power Supply etc have been added over the years.

HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Institutional Visits like IISc, IIA, ISRO, AMD every year and celebrate “National Science Day” to inculcate scientific temperament amongst students.
  • The Department conducted self financed Add-on course"Astronomy and Astrophysics" for the B.Sc. students in association with "MP Birla Institute of Fundamental Research", Bangalore.
  • Abstract concepts in physics are explained through ICT, Charts and Diagrams. Some of the theoretical aspects are made easy through C. D’s and experimental demonstration in the laboratory.
  • The Department possesses well-equipped laboratories to effectively meet the curriculum requirement. The department has received appreciation from professors  who visit the laboratories as external practical examiners from various city colleges  regarding infrastructural facilities provided, maintenance of lab and equipment’s, students performance and their neat practical record maintenance.
  • The staff members guide the students and motivate them to participate in competitions like Quiz, Model Making , Science Exhibition , Lecturers, Essay and Collage.
  • Experts from various fields are regularly invited to deliver lectures to enrich the knowledge of the students and the staff.
  • The Department provides self reading materials for students by maintaining a departmental library consisting  books contributed by senior staff members and personal copies of staff members
